Kiwi SailGP member Finn Henry announced on his Linked in page that he was joining Team Australia for the 38th America’s Cup in Naples as Boat Captain.
‘I’m excited to share that my next chapter involves stepping into Team Australia in the role of Boat Captain. No doubt this will be a challenging role given the sharp lead in to the Americas Cup Challenger series starting in May 2027, but I know I’ll be working with some of the world’s best from across the ditch.’
Henry had been a member of the Black Foils SailGP Team since 2022. He was listed as a reserve at the recent Geneva Grand Prix event.
He added . . . ‘The time has come to sign off from a great period of my career with the Black Foils SailGP Team . I enjoyed both my opportunities to race on the boat as well as develop within my role as Shore Manager, but most importantly I made some lifetime friendships along the way.’
Team Australia is the sixth challenger for the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup in Naples, representing the Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club. They officially announced their challenge in May 2026.
Led by Head of Sailing Tom Slingsby OAM, the seven-strong team comprises: Jason Waterhouse, Tom Needham, Kinley Fowler, Tash Bryant, Sam Newton and Luke Parkinson.
Backed by John Winning jr and family, the campaign is led by Chief Executive Officer Grant Simmer.
The Aussie AC75 is the old ETNZ Te Rehutai, winner of the 2021 America’s Cup, currently undergoing modifications to the latest specification by its previous owners under the supervision of technical director Glenn Ashby.
The 38th America’s Cup Match begins over the weekend of the 10-11 July 2027. But the qualification event, the Louis Vuitton Cup Challenger Selection Series, begins 22 May 2027. So time is of the essence.
