A festive Parade of Nations along the Aarhus waterfront today officially marked the opening of the 2026 ILCA 4 Youth World Championship. Led by a marching band, all sailors paraded together while national flags from around the world waved in the breeze.

A stronger breeze from the east and a good flood tide the X boat fleet got away first time from the Royal Yacht Squadron line on a beat to Collete. Sadly there were some OCS boats.

The wind and fun started before Cadet week proper even got under way with the serious young racers getting plenty of practice in on the previous Sunday. It was windy and challenging but with a broken mast to report on a Club boat, it was good practice.

A short 3-mile drive downstream – or in the case of Upper Thames 1/2 mile tow from the club tender – found the fleet at Cookham Reach for the second day of our southern sojourn.
