Pwllheli’s Challenge series has certainly been a challenge so far with storms starting to batter the west coast and 2 races cancelled. This weekend was a challenging weekend of two halves.

It’s back-to-school time, with most Class40s setting their sights on next month’s Transat CAFE L’OR Normandie – Le Havre and others on the Rolex Middle Sea Race. But September also means the 40 Malouine – La Trinquette.

With the Osprey fleet being invited down to Castle Cove to join in with our regular travelling chums in the Contender Class, a good weekend was guaranteed.

The 2025 GP14 Scottish Championship took place at Castle Semple Sailing Club, SW of Glasgow, over the weekend of 6-7 September 2025. It was a small gathering of seven boats, but this did not dampen any enthusiasm.

The September Open marks the end of the season for many, while others try to eke it out for as long as possible. The midweek forecast for the weekend wasn’t too encouraging: showers on Saturday and a windless north-westerly Sunday.

Saturday was day three and the half-way stage of the Autumn League, sponsored by Fingal County Council. The torrential rain that washed the east coast for the morning duly followed the forecasters’ instructions and dried up in time for the race starts.
