Wednesday Sandy Askew’s Flying Jenny beat 23 of the highest rated IRC yachts competing at Cowes Week to lift the prestigious Britannia Cup

We’ve hit the halfway mark at Ginger Boats Bass Week, and what a week it’s been so far! The first weekend saw142 boats have take to the water, with some seriously fun (and sometimes frantic) racing happening under the watchful eye of Skiddaw Mountain.

After breezy conditions on the first day of racing, leading to several hours of postponement and only one race sailed, sailors arrived at the boat park with heavy legs and there were certainly several prayers for more forgiving conditions.

Another gorgeous day in Abersoch! Slightly fewer knots of breeze and slightly fewer hours spent on shore… three races were completed in 8-14 knots with intermittent sun!

The biggest boats in Class Zero today were joined today by Tony Langley’s Gladiator, which will be racing for the rest of the week. The battle for the Britannia Cup was between these giants, IRC1 and the Cape 31s.

The green rolling hills of South Bohemia provide the picturesque backdrop to the 2025 Cadet World Championship on Lake Lipno. The general relaxed vibe of this resort area is about to be punctured by the enthusiasm, energy and expectation.

After day 1’s race, which saw more Kestrels upside down than the right way up, we woke up today to some very light and questionable winds. Regardless of the windless situation the fleet went out and started race 2 perfectly on time.

Most EAORA entrants finished within the top half of the 450-strong fleet taking part in the Rolex Fastnet Centenary race.

The RYA National Match Racing Series will be returning to the Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club in Scotland for its final qualifier of 2025 – the Ceilidh Cup.
