5.5 Metre Worlds – New leader after day 2 adds three more races

Artemis of Kristoffer Spone, Trond Solli Sæther and Anders Pedersen lead after the second day of racing at the 5.5 Metre World Championship in Lavrion, Greece.

Artemis posted a 2, 3, 1, and with the discard in play, dropped a 6 from day 1 to take the lead with 10 pts. Aspire of Przemek Gacek, Mateusz Kusznierewicz and Kilian Weise, are now second with 12 pts.

In third is Girls on Film of Louise Morton, Charlie Cumbley and Sam Haines tied on 18 pts with 4th placed Ali-Baba of Flavio Marazzi.

 
The first race of the day went to the Corinthian team on Jon B of Gavin McKinney, Lars Horn Johannessenand Bjørn Mørland-Pederson now in fifth place on 23 pts.

The second race was a win for Louise Morton’s Girls on Film and the final race of the day a win for Artemis, giving them a two point edge as the event goes into the final day.

The second day of racing has confirmed the world Championship validity, which looked in some doubt. The question now is how many races can be sailed before the time limit on Friday.

The forecast for Friday is again for light southerly winds.
